Cycle Law Scotland returns to Edinburgh Festival of Cycling 2015

Cycle Law Scotland have lent their support to the third annual Edinburgh Festival of Cycling (EdFoC) as an official silver sponsor.

The legal firm, who specialise in helping cyclists injured in road collisions and are passionate cyclists themselves, has lent its support to the event which runs from 11 and 21 June 2015.

On Thursday 12 June, CLS founder Brenda Mitchell gave a talk to around 30 participants at the Central Library on “Cycling and the Law” explaining case law and how the law works around accident scenarios.

Ms Mitchell who set up the Road Share campaign for Presumed Liability and founded “Belles on Bikes in the Borders”, also hosted a discussion of around 19 people at the festival’s Women’s Cycle Forum event.

She led discussions around the benefits of introducing a system of presumed liability to Scots law and how this could help encourage more women to take up cycling.

Ms Mitchell, said: “Cycle Law Scotland is delighted to return as a supporter of EdFoC for a third year and I look also forward to this year’s excellent programme of activities.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to address the Women’s Forum and open up the discussion around presumed liability and how this may help give more women the confidence to get on their bikes alone and with their children.

“I believe Scotland has the potential to be a great cycling nation but there needs to be a significant change in the culture that exists between road users for us all to feel sufficiently safe and protected.”
