Crown Office lodges first notices for FAIs into prisoner and farmer deaths
The Crown Office has lodged first notices to begin court processes for two fatal accident inquiries (FAI).
Christopher Fulton, 26, a prisoner within HMP Addiewell, was found dead in his cell on 24 March 2021.
Mr Fulton was in legal custody and in the care of the state at the time of his death. The Crown Office is obliged to investigate such deaths.
A preliminary hearing will be held on 26 May 2026 at Livingston Sheriff Court.
Thomas William Edgar, 78, farmer and owner of the Linton Bankhouse Farm, died on the morning of 5 September 2024 after being crushed by a hay bale.
A preliminary hearing for the FAI into his death is set for 27 May 2026 at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Procurator fiscal Andy Shanks said: “The death of occurred while in the course of his employment and as such a fatal accident inquiry is mandatory.”
