CMS has appointed contentious IP specialist Neeraj Thomas as an of counsel in the firm’s technology & media practice in Glasgow. He joins from Burness Paull, where he was a senior associate.

Mr Thomas has extensive experience advising clients in disputes concerning patents, trademarks, software, design rights, copyright and confidential information.

He has particular expertise advising clients in the sports sector, having acted for many of the most prominent sports governing bodies in Scotland on a broad range of issues including the drafting and implementation of a new disciplinary regime as well ongoing advice on additional rules and procedures.

CMS Glasgow technology & media partner, Carina Healy, said: “We are delighted to welcome Neeraj to the firm. Neeraj has an outstanding reputation in the contentious IP space, and significant experience acting on disciplinary matters for clients across the sports sector.

“His expert knowledge and strong track record will be of real benefit to the team as we look to further develop and grow our offering across Scotland.”

Mr Thomas said: “I am excited to be joining the ranks of CMS in Scotland. The IP team is highly regarded as top in their field and I look forward to supporting their growth both in the region and wider.”

The appointment is the latest in a string of recent strategic hires for CMS in Scotland. Last month saw the arrival of energy and renewables partner Chris McGarvey, who joined the firm’s Glasgow office from Pinsent Masons, while corporate partner Laura McIntosh joined the CMS Edinburgh office in March after 12 years at Dickson Minto.
