Charities to raise banner of shared parenting on mountain peaks
Shared Parenting Scotland is teaming up with Both Parents Matter in England and Wales to take their message to the highest points of Scotland, England and Wales on 30 May.
Supporters will march, climb and scramble to raise banners for shared parenting on Scafell Pike, Snowdon, and Ben Nevis, the highest peak in each nation, drawing attention to experience across the UK that most children do better in most areas of their life when they maintain a meaningful relationship with both parents following separation.
Kevin Kane, chief executive of Shared Parenting Scotland, said: “We have 17 hardy parents, volunteers and supporters from all parts of Scotland who will take on Ben Nevis on May 30th. We are proud to be doing our leg of the Three Peaks Challenge alongside so many others across the Great Britain who are committed to shared parenting.
“Research evidence is clear most children benefit when they have the love and involvement of both parents and wider family. Yet there are too many customs, systems and attitudes that make shared parenting more difficult than it need be. By coming together like this with our colleagues in England and Wales, we can raise awareness and drive positive support for families everywhere”.
Sam Morfey, chief executive of Both Parents Matter, commented: “This tough challenge is about more than reaching three summits. It’s about standing together to highlight the importance of shared parenting for children and the need to support families going through separation. Both Parents Matter is joining forces with Shared Parenting Scotland to show that the issues faced by separating parents cross borders. We hope it inspires others to get involved and support families when they need it most.”
