Celebrate women in law – yesterday, today and tomorrow

Celebrate women in law – yesterday, today and tomorrow

Thursday 22 June 2023
Parliament Hall, Parliament House, Edinburgh

Nearly 100 years ago, on Friday 13 July 1923, Margaret Kidd called to the bar – the very first female member of the Faculty of Advocates.

Faculty is hosting a drinks reception to celebrate her achievements, together with those of all other female members of the Scottish bar, from 5.30pm on Thursday 22 June in Parliament Hall.

A new image of Kidd will be unveiled in the Hall, in the presence of her grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. Laura Dunlop KC, Ann Inglis and Emma Boffey will speak. Ms Inglis was the 13th female member of Faculty, calling in 1975.

All are welcome and Faculty would especially love to welcome any aspiring future advocates. Funds raised through ticket sales for the event will go to the LawScot Foundation, which supports academically talented students from less-advantaged backgrounds in Scotland through their legal education journey, and to Womankind Worldwide which supports women’s rights organisations.

The event attracts 0.5 hrs’ CPD Practice Development. Drinks and canapes will be served from 5.30pm. Tickets at £20 per person can be booked here.
