Arnot Manderson Advocates welcomed the news that stable members Ceit-Anna MacLeod and David Turner have been appointed King’s Counsel. This brings the number of senior counsel in Scotland’s full-service stable to eleven.

Ms MacLeod called to the bar in 2012 and is instructed as counsel to the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry, advising the inquiry on the legal aspects of its work and presenting evidence at public hearings. She is skilled in examining vulnerable witnesses and those who have experienced trauma – skills she has transferred from her family law practice.

She is described in Chambers UK Bar Guide as a “go-to junior for a broad range of family cases” who “has cogent opinions and an excellent knowledge of family law”. She is further described as “capable, cool-headed and extremely good with clients” and as going “above and beyond in terms of service”. She is commended for her “client management, courtroom composure and pragmatism”.

David Turner called to the bar in 2012. In 2022 he was appointed as full time junior counsel to the Scottish Covid-19 Inquiry, becoming deputy to co-lead counsel in 2024.

Away from the Inquiry, he has a busy and varied civil practice appearing in the Scottish courts in all areas of commercial and personal disputes. A qualified arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), he also represents clients at arbitration and mediation.

He was ranked as a leading junior counsel in Chambers UK Bar Guide 2025 for Real Estate Litigation (Band 1); Commercial Dispute Resolution; Company (Band 1); and Private Client, being described as “an excellent counsel – insightful and responsive.” In the 2025 edition of Legal 500 he was described as having “a wonderful legal brain”.

Practice manager Andrew Sutherland said: “I have clerked for Ceit-Anna and David from the day they called to the bar together in July 2012, so it is gratifying but not surprising to have witnessed their considerable development in the intervening years. We are delighted to see Ceit-Anna and David recognised in this way.

“This is a well-deserved accolade for both counsel and everyone at the stable is extremely proud. Both counsel exemplify the commitment of the stable to excellence in their areas of specialism. I know both counsel will continue to offer the highest standard of advice and representation to solicitors and clients across Scotland, particularly but not exclusively in the fields of inquiry work, family law and in commercial law.”
