Case against Leslie Deans dropped over insufficient evidence

A case against former Heart of Midlothian chairman and solicitor Leslie Deans has been dropped as a result of insufficient evidence.

Mr Deans, 65, along with six others, faced money laundering charges in relation to a 2013 fraud inquiry.

But the Crown has decided not to prosecute Mr Deans, who was chairman of the Edinburgh team in the 1990s.

A Crown Office spokesman said: “The procurator fiscal has received a report concerning five men and two women in connection with alleged incidents between 2006 and 2008.

“After a full investigation and careful consideration by Crown Counsel, it has been decided there is insufficient evidence to raise criminal proceedings at this time.”
