BTO Solicitors announces firm-wide senior promotions

BTO Solicitors has announced a series of senior promotions across the firm from a variety of teams.Four senior solicitors - Eileen Sherry, Jennifer King, David Cairns and Andrew Phillips - have all been appointed as associates.Ms Sherry joined the firm in August 2011 and has become an associate within BTO’s insurers’ representation team. She specialises in property, product liability, policy and multi-jurisdictional claims. She also has extensive civil litigation experience and is regularly involved in cases brought before the sheriff courts and the Court of Session.

Ms King has been promoted to an associate in BTO’s professional discipline & clinical defence team, ranked Band 1 by Chambers UK and Legal 500. She assists in representing medical and dental professionals before the General Medical Council and the General Dental Council, and in defending clinical negligence claims raised in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session. Ms King is also experienced in providing advice to both employers and employees in a variety of contentious and non-contentious matters, and in pursuing and defending Employment Tribunal claims.

Mr Cairns joined BTO’s health and safety, regulatory and criminal practice in June 2015. He is an experienced defence solicitor having developed considerable advocacy skills appearing in criminal courts throughout Scotland. His particular area of expertise is in the defence of health and safety, environmental, financial, road traffic and other criminal and regulatory investigations/prosecutions. Mr Cairns also appears regularly on behalf of clients at fatal accident inquiries.

Mr Phillips is an experienced solicitor in criminal law working within BTO’s health and safety, regulatory and criminal practice. He has represented clients in some of the most serious and high profile cases heard in the Scottish criminal courts. He defends clients facing all manner of criminal prosecutions, with a particular specialism in financial crime, confiscation proceedings and associated civil proceedings. In addition to his criminal caseload, Mr Phillips assists with health and safety and environmental matters and often represents clients involved in fatal accident inquiries.
