The Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL) which has more than 800 members throughout the UK is launching a Scotland Seminar Programme for 2019 with the aim of growing the Scottish membership.

Professional regulation has been increasing throughout Scotland and the UK over the last two decades, with Scotland having many of its own regulators covering law, accountancy, social services, teaching, medicine, dentistry, nursing, sport and many more.

Catriona Watt, partner at Anderson Strathern, is the immediate past chair of ARDL and is now tasked with growing the Scottish membership of the organisation across private practice, the bar and in-house legal teams.

The Scotland Seminar Programme 2019 has now been launched with the inaugural seminar being delivered by Roddy Dunlop QC on Thursday 28th February at 5pm in The Hub at Anderson Strathern’s Edinburgh office

Mr Dunlop will review Scotland’s contribution to the professional regulation jurisprudence over the last two decades – much of which he has been involved in.  He’ll then be joined by Jim Percival, Deputy general counsel at the General Medical Council for a panel discussion and Q&A session.

Ms Watt said: “Scotland’s place in the firmament of regulatory jurisprudence is well known throughout the UK and this is a practice area which is growing every month.

“There are many more solicitors and advocates involved in professional regulation than when I first started in this area in 2006 and having our own Seminar Programmes and growth in membership in long overdue.”
