Anne Frances Hilley, known by many simply as AF, who has died peacefully at Monklands Hospital on 8 April 2026, was a respected procurator fiscal depute who was known for her hard work, helpfulness and knowledge.

Before joining the Crown Office in February 2005, AF had already had a career in nursing, before university and then time in private practice.

She began her COPFS career within the local court summary team in Glasgow, where she quickly became known as a trusted and capable colleague. Her move to Airdrie in 2010 marked the start of a varied period, during which she worked across summary, sheriff and jury, and sexual offences teams.

Over seven years there, she earned the respect not only of colleagues but of justice partners. Following a short period with the National Initial Case Processing unit in Hamilton, AF took up her final post within the Serious and Organised Crime Unit at Gartcosh.

Those who worked alongside AF speak not only of her passion, fighting spirit, and generosity, but of her humour and humility. She combined seriousness of purpose with kindness and never lost sight of the people at the heart of her work.

Anne Frances is survived by siblings Angela, Jim and Liam. A wide circle of friends and colleagues will miss her greatly.

She will be received at St Augustine’s Church, Coatbridge, on Friday 24 April at 6pm. A funeral service will be held there on Saturday 25 April at 10am, followed by a celebration of her life at Holytown Crematorium at 11.30am. In keeping with her spirit, mourners are invited to wear colour.

Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, may be made to charity.
