And finally… use of force
A man detained after trailing US troops with a speaker playing Darth Vader’s iconic theme tune has filed a lawsuit over his treatment.
Washington DC man Sam O’Hara staged the creative process after President Trump controversially deployed the National Guard to the city.
TikTok videos of his stunt racked up millions of views amid widespread opposition to Trump’s expanded domestic use of the military.
However, a member of the Ohio National Guard “was not amused by this satire” and called the police on him, according to a lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
Mr O’Hara was handcuffed for 15 to 20 minutes and prevented from continuing his protest.
“The law might have tolerated government conduct of this sort a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away,” the lawsuit states.
“But in the here and now, the First Amendment bars government officials from shutting down peaceful protests, and the Fourth Amendment (along with the District’s prohibition on false arrest) bars groundless seizures.”
Mr O’Hara is seeking damages in his case against the Ohio National Guard member, four police officers and the District of Columbia.
