And finally… traffic warden sees red

A traffic warden in China was dragged off by police after she assaulted a pedestrian with a hammer because the woman had crossed the road while the light was still red.

The unnamed warden was seen striking the pedestrian over the head with the iron hammer repeatedly after the woman ignored the official while crossing a road in Shandong province.

Eyewitnesses said the attack was the culmination of earlier incidents between the pair because she had ignored red lights in the past.

As the traffic warden attacked the woman, she shouted: “I won’t let you run the red light”.

Shoppers detained the warden until police turned up and arrested her while the victim was taken to hospital.

In China it is an offence to ignore traffic signals and pedestrians caught doing so can be fined 10 yuan (£1).
