And finally… stop the calls Stop the Calls

A company which offered a service blocking nuisance calls has been fined for making nuisance calls itself, a private watchdog has said.

Point One Marketing, which traded as Stop the Calls, offered customers the service of being removed from cold-call databases as well as a device to block calls for their phones.

However, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) said the company had advertised its service by means of “aggressive cold calling”, with staff even shouting at people.

It was discovered the company called people registered with the Telephone Preference Service – meaning they did not want unsolicited sales or marketing calls.

In addition it ignored requests to stop calling and hassled some people repeatedly on the same day.

ICO fined it £50,000, with head of enforcement Stephen Eckersley dryly remarking: “This company lacked integrity.”
