And finally… salt in the wound
A man who was jailed for four months for possessing methylamphetamine – crystal meth – has been released after it emerged the substance was not a drug at all – it was salt.
The man from Queensland, Australia, was taken in by police after they found the substance in his car.
He was detained for four months while experts undertook forensic tests.
Travis George, the man’s lawyer, said he was detained for so long because of his previous convictions.
But the charges were dropped after the tests showed the “crystal meth” was in fact Epsom salt.
A local magistrate, John Smith, said: “For the last 14 years nothing has been done (about the delays)… once again the government needs to have a look at what they are doing in relation to this.”
