And finally… numbskulls

Kent police are asking anyone who has been offered a skull for sale to come forward after thieves stole 21 of them from a church crypt.

The remains, which are thought to be 700 years old, were taken from St Leonard’s Church in Hythe, Kent.

Inspector Maxine Harris said that the skulls were “not free for the taking”, adding: “They are part of an important collection. We are keen to see them back in their rightful place in the crypt.”

The Dicoese of Canterbury said the crypt’s display is the “largest and best-preserved collection of ancient human skulls and bones in Britain”.
