A jury in Los Angeles this week found the rapper, legally named Rakim Mayers, not guilty of firing a semi-automatic weapon at a former friend in November 2021, prompting him to honour his unborn child in remembrance of being acquitted.

Attorney Joe Tacopina, who represented Mr Mayers, told ExtraTV that he and girlfriend Rihanna, with whom he has two children, grabbed him after the verdict and said: “Listen, our next baby is A$SAP Joe.”

“I said ‘I’m going to hold you to that’,” he added.

Mr Tacopina, a high-profile criminal defence lawyer who previously acted for Donald Trump, also said: “He said some very nice things [to me].

“I mean, he told me he loved me, and we’re family.”
