A man has been arrested for allegedly dressing up as his dead mother in order to claim her pension while hiding her mummified body at home.

Police in the Italian city of Mantua have released photographs of Graziella Dall’Oglio and her 56-year-old son, who used a wig and makeup to steal her identity.

Authorities believe Ms Dall’Oglio died in 2022 at the age of 82, CNN reports.

Her son allegedly continued to claim her pension and donned the disguise when she was summoned to an in-person appointment to renew her identity card.

A worker who processed the application raised doubts about her identity, leading to a police investigation and the discovery of her body.

The man now faces prosecution for concealing a corpse, fraud, impersonation and forgery of a public document.
