And finally... moral blinders

The Taliban has rebuked four Afghan men who dressed up like characters in the British TV series Peaky Blinders for failing to live up to “Afghan and Islamic values”.

In videos posted to YouTube with captions like “Shelby mode”, the friends smoke cigarettes while wearing flat caps, suits and long coats like characters in the show.

Peaky Blinders is set in Birmingham in the immediate aftermath of World War I and follows a gang of criminals, led by Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy), through to the 1930s.

The videos came to the attention of the Taliban’s department of vice and virtue, which summoned and upbraided the men, the BBC reports.

A spokesperson for the Taliban morality police said: “Even jeans would have been acceptable, but the values in the Peaky Blinders series are against Afghan culture.”

The men had since undergone “rehabilitation”, officials said, and had promised not to repeat their conduct.
