A monk was arrested after he was caught with more than four million methamphetamine pills in his monastery and car.

Police were tipped off that the Buddhist renunciant was in possession of the drugs.

Officers in the north of Myanmar found 400,000 pills in his car and a further 4.2 million in his monastery — as well as a grenade.

Myanmar is a major producer of the drugs, which is smuggled from the north east to surrounding countries.
