And finally… justice foiled
Canada’s federal prisons are to provide inmates with paper straws, foil and drug-testing strips as part of a harm-reduction strategy addressing illicit drug use.
Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) said the measures would “reduce harm” by lowering the risks associated with snorting drugs, while recognizing that “overdose and toxicity risk remain”.
Inmates will have access to testing strips for fentanyl, benzodiazepine and xylazine.
“(CSC) maintains a zero-tolerance policy for the introduction of illicit drugs in its institutions”, spokesperson Laurence Cote said. “We are aware that despite our best efforts, illicit drugs still enter facilities.”
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre criticised the policy, calling for “zero tolerance for drugs in prison”.
