And finally… Judge Barbie

And finally... Judge Barbie

They may not resemble UK Supreme Court head Lady Hale, or the veteran US Supreme Court justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, but it’s hoped that a new career-themed range of Judge Barbie dolls will encourage more women to take up the law.

Toymaker Mattel said the doll, available in a variety of skin tones and hairstyles, was created because only a third of US state judges are women.

The new doll, clad in American-style judicial robes, is part of the toymaker’s efforts to close the “dream gap”.

Lisa McKnight, global head of Barbie, told USA Today: “Barbie has had over 200 careers. We like to say: ‘There isn’t a plastic ceiling that Barbie hasn’t broken.’”
