And finally… jailbirds

And finally... jailbirds

A man who allegedly pretended to be a lawyer to visit his girlfriend in jail was caught after guards spotted them hugging and kissing.

Aaron Oldham gained access to Oklahoma County Detention Center via the attorney’s visitation area after claiming to represent Christine Hillier, who was actually his girlfriend, according to local media.

Although he brought genuine power of attorney paperwork, which Hillier completed, the pair subsequently became noticeably more amorous, prompting suspicion among jail officials.

They investigated after Oldham left and discovered that he was not a qualified lawyer, leading to his arrest later that day for “false personation”.

Oldham told local media that it was a “silly misunderstanding” and he was “a very law-abiding person”.

A spokesperson for the jail said: “An individual recently presented himself at the jail claiming to be an attorney in order to visit an inmate.

“A staff member did not follow established verification procedures, allowing the individual access.

“Once the breach was discovered, investigators obtained a warrant, and the individual was arrested at a residence in Oklahoma City.

“The staff member involved has been disciplined, and all staff assigned to the attorney visitation area have received retraining to reinforce our existing policies and prevent this from happening again.”
