And finally… house arrest

The house where Adolf Hitler was born is to be repurposed as a human rights training centre for Austrian police officers.

The redevelopment of the 17th century house in Braunau am Inn at a cost of €20 million will begin later this year after an expert committee rejected alternative proposals to demolish it or turn it into a memorial centre, The Guardian reports.

Germany’s future Nazi dictator was born in a rented room on the top floor of the building in 1889.

The building was compulsorily purchased by the Austrian government in 2016.

The new training centre, as well as a police station, will open by 2026, the Austrian government has said.
