“Ms Golf”, as she has been dubbed by police, allegedly extracted 385 million baht (€10.2m or £8.8m) from at least nine victims over three years, the BBC reports.

In one case, she told a monk that she was pregnant with his child and then demanded millions of baht in child support.

Police believe she used the proceeds of the scam to fund an addiction to online gambling.

Ms Golf is now facing criminal charges of extortion, money laundering and receiving stolen goods.
