And finally… Facebook fools
A suspected criminal was arrested after he “liked” his own wanted post on Facebook.
The profile of Levi Charles Reardon, a suspect from Montana believed to have stolen a wallet and personal cheques, was uploaded to a Crimestoppers page that stated he was “wanted on: forgery (common scheme), felony, total bond $2,500.”
But after the post was made Mr Reardon himself liked the post.
He was arrested by police.
A man who fraudulently claimed benefits for rheumatoid arthritis, claiming he could walk no more than 250 metres was caught out after mentioning on social media he was participating in a 26-mile sponsored walk.
Cameron Cowan, 42, of Stirling claimed nearly £9,500 in disability living allowance but the Royal Mail worker took to social media to let his friends know he was going on the 26-mile sponsored Kiltwalk.
The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) got wind of the ruse and began watching Mr Cameron.
He posted an update stating: “Halfway in the kilt walk, just 13 mile to go.”
Subsequently, he uploaded a photo of himself, perhaps to remove any doubt for the DWP.
At Stirling Sheriff Court, Mr Cowan pleaded guilty to obtaining the benefits fraudulently – he neglected to tell the DWP he had gotten better and was ordered to do 240 hours of unpaid work as well as repay the cash.
