And finally… don’t mention the War

Manchester United’s Bastian Schweinsteiger is to sue a Chinese toymaker after it produced a Nazi doll named “Bastian” which bears a striking resemblance to the midfielder.

However, the company has said the resemblance is “purely coincidental”.

The solider is dressed as a member of the Wehrmacht replete with a swastika-bearing eagle insignia.

German tabloid Bild raged: “Our football hero Bastian Schweinsteiger as a Nazi soldier!”

The figures were due to be released in Europe, priced at £65.

Hong Kong-based DiD is the company responsible for the range of toys.

Its representative, Patrick Chan, told Bild: “We offer no figures based on the football. The resemblance is purely coincidental.

“The figure is based on a typical German.”

Bizarrely, he added: “We believe most Germans look like this.”

It is not know whether he also thinks most Germans are named “Bastian”.

Media lawyer Ulrich Amelung said: “This is a clear violation of the rights of Schweinsteiger.

“The portrayal of him wearing a swastika uniform is a clear case of defamation and insult.”
