And finally… diamond in the rough
A Chinese woman suspected of stealing a diamond worth £195,000 in Thailand was apprehended before the gem was surgically removed from her intestines.
The would-be master thief was thought to have taken the diamond from a jewellery fair in Bangkok after swapping it with a fake.
She swallowed it in order to smuggle it abroad, but security cameras at the fair caught her, allowing officers to catch up with her at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
At first she denied any involvement but an X-ray revealed the diamond in her intestines.
Doctors gave her laxatives initially but when these proved ineffective she was given a colonoscopy.
A police official told the Bangkok Post the operation took 12 minutes and that the woman was recovering in hospital.
