And finally… degree of composure required
A Mississippi family were handed arrest warrants for “excessively” celebrating the graduation of a family member from high school.
One of the family members, Ursula Miller, said she was given a warrant for disturbing the peace a fortnight after her niece’s graduation ceremony at Senatobia High School in the state.
Henry Walker, the girl’s brother, who was also given a warrant, waved a towel while cheering her on.
The charges could see them paying a minimum of $500 each should they be found guilty.
Jay Foster, the school’s district superintendent, speaking to CNN, said the punishment is normal.
He said guests were told not to celebrate until the end of the ceremony to “ allow all graduates to have the privilege of hearing their name called”.
He assisted police in filing the charges of disturbing the peace.
“We want everyone to see their own loved ones graduate and hear their names called,” Foster said.
“When people disrupt that, it takes away from the students and their families.”
