The driver was a 31-year-old off-duty soldier, who was drunk and had gotten lost in the city of Dortmund.

He ignored warning signs and followed a tram into a tunnel, unaware he was driving on a train track.

The man, who has not been named, stopped at the first station he came to – Barop Parkhaus.

Speaking to Bild newspaper, he said: “I was in a nightclub, and like a real dummy I got behind the wheel.

“After that my memory’s blank. All I remember is two policemen approaching me on the platform.”

The service was interrupted for several hours as U-Bahn staff pushed the car out of the station by hand.

The driver, who only had a provisional license, has now lost it.

An American woman’s mugshot which shows her open-mouthed and seemingly in shock has gone viral.

Ashley Stabler, 23, looks like she has seen a ghost off-camera after officers in Oklahoma brought her in.

She was photographed at Tulsa jail after she allegedly drove without insurance and with a suspended license and improper plates, KLAS-TV reports.

It is not known what caused Ms Stabler to make the face reminiscent of Edvard Munch’s painting The Scream.
