And finally… conned

Lawyer Eric Conn has disappeared, shortly after admitting that he effectively stole $600 million from the US government.

The Kentucky lawyer accepted that he made millions for himself by bribing a doctor and a judge to approve fraudulent disability claims.

Mr Conn was charged with “designing an intricate scheme and using his expertise and positions of authority to fraudulently induce payment of $600 million in federal disability and healthcare benefits”.

He pleaded guilty and was due to be sentenced next month, but has allegedly removed his electronic monitoring tag and gone on the run.

Authorities previously expressed fears that Mr Conn has money stashed abroad and could flee to a foreign country, the Washington Times reports.

Mr Conn’s whereabouts are “currently unknown”, the FBI has said.
