And finally… cheers to that

A driver who drank half a bottle of wine from a coffee cup before crashing her car has had her licence revoked for two years.

Ruth Brown, 55, drank a bottle of wine at lunch before embarking on a 160-mile journey from Exeter to Devon.

Before she set off, however, she decanted another half bottle into a coffee cup for the journey, Surrey Police say.

Upon her arrival in Devon a man told police he was nearly run over by a woman who then crashed her car into an embankment – nearly hitting another vehicle.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: “In an interview she admitted to drinking a bottle of wine at lunch while in Exeter, and then drank another half bottle of wine which she had decanted into an empty Costa Coffee cup and drank en-route.”

Ms Brown was sentenced at Guilford Magistratres’ Court where, in addition to her ban, she was ordered to undertake 120 hours unpaid work and was charged various costs amounting to £295.
