And finally… call the cops – we’re getting married
Police in Russia have set up a special unit whose sole purpose is to maintain security – at weddings.
The unit, comprising 40 officers, will patrol Adygea in the North Caucasus region of the country to ensure nobody fires weapons from car windows and that motorcades follow the highway code according to the Tass news agency.
People in Adygea are known for enjoying their weddings, which often include celebratory gunfire and noisy convoys that drive around with little respect for other drivers.
Adygea’s interior minister Aleksandr Rechitsky told Tass: “The creation of the ‘wedding police’ should put an end to uncontrolled expressions of joy by people in wedding motorcades.”
One bride welcomed the news, telling the television channel Kuban 24: Setting up this police unit was the right thing to do because people have been killed by wedding shootings.”
The last incident in Maykop, the capital of Adygea occurred last month when a man fired his pistol outside a registry office in celebration and was fined 50,000 roubles, about £480.
