And finally... blue jobs under threat

North Carolina’s law enforcement watchdog is proposing new standards that would explicitly ban police officers from having sex while on duty, in uniform, in police vehicles, or with subordinates and trainees.

The initiative, led by the state’s Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission, follows years of ambiguity and leniency under existing rules.

Current guidelines only require officers to uphold “good moral character,” a standard frequently disputed in disciplinary hearings. The proposed reforms would spell out unacceptable behaviour and define when an officer’s certification could be suspended, revoked or denied.

The commission also plans to make lying during internal or criminal investigations grounds for disciplinary action.
