And finally… between a rock and a hard place
An American man has found himself behind bars after he allegedly tried to pay his bar tab with a pebble before threatening to blow the bar up.
Jared Simpson, 23, from Maine, was taken into custody on charges of making false bomb threats as well as disorderly conduct and petty theft.
Investigators said Mr Simpson entered the bar on crutches and ordered a beer before offering the bartender a rock as payment for his $10 tab.
Unsurprisingly, the bartender rejected the pebble – at which point Mr Simpson threw a dollar bill at a female employee and said he would pay her “in other ways” the Huffington Post reports.
While at the bar he is said to have told another patron that he was “shot up in the war”.
However, his fellow drinker turned out to be a veteran and asked which branch of the military Mr Simpson served in.
Court documents state that he replied: “If I tell you, I have to kill you”.
After failing to make payment with the rock, Mr Simpson left the bar, without using the crutches, only to return with a credit card which did not work.
He returned yet again in a grey suit and carrying a briefcase. One witness said he heard him “speaking in tongues.”
The situation took a sinister turn when he placed the briefcase on the table, opened it and then closed it before retreating with a mobile phone and a beeper.
He then told the bar patrons: “Anyone touch this, they will die”.
The police were then alerted and everyone evacuated the bar.
When police asked him about the briefcase, Mr Simpson said: “I am my own master, I answer to myself; no police have the right to ask questions.”
His bond has been set at $30,500, however local station WCTV reports a judge has ordered a psychiatric evaluation before Mr Simpson is eligible to bail out.
