And finally… because I got sued
Afroman has won defamation proceedings brought against him by police officers whom he mocked in music videos after a raid on his home.
The Because I Got High singer used his own home CCTV footage in videos for songs he released about the incident, such as Will You Help Me Repair My Door, Lemon Pound Cake (after a strain of cannabis) and Why You Disconnecting My Video Camera.
Seven police officer subsequently sued the rapper for “humiliation, ridicule, mental distress, embarrassment and loss of reputation”.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) made submissions to the court on what they described as a “classic entry into the SLAPP suit genre”.
A jury yesterday sided with Afroman, agreeing that he was exercising his right to free speech.
