Advocate John Halley arrested

Advocate John Halley, 59, has been arrested over alleged sexual offences.

Mr Halley was arrested last month and is due to appear in Livingston Sheriff Court at a later date.

He was called to the bar in 1997 and has worked in family law and sat as a part-time sheriff. He was appointed as a lead junior counsel to the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry (SCAI) by the former chair, Susan O’Brien KC. He ceased being instructed by the inquiry and has done no work for it since October 2016.

SCAI began its work in October 2015. It is chaired by Lady Smith, who was appointed in August 2016.
