Access Legal expands medical negligence team with strategic senior hire

Access Legal has expanded its medical negligence team in Edinburgh with the hire of senior associate, Judy Williamson.

Access Legal is a separate brand (private client) to Shoosmiths and comes at a time when Access Legal and Shoosmiths are growing their presence in Edinburgh.

Ms Williamson represents claimants and is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in medical negligence, having held that accreditation since 2003.

She joins from Anderson Strathern where she practised in their healthcare, public and regulatory law team.

With an in-depth knowledge of both the NHS and private healthcare system combined with over 20 years’ litigation experience, she has a broad range of legal experience including regularly appearing at fatal accident inquiries.

With a strong reputation in the region – having pursued one of the first jury trials in a medical negligence case in Scotland, her appointment will support the growth of Shoosmiths medical negligence practice in Edinburgh.

Ms Williamson is also a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers.

She is also recognised in the legal directories Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 as a “leader in their field” and “Recommended” respectively.

Phil Barnes, medical negligence partner at Access Legal, said: “We are pleased to welcome Judy to the team. She brings with her a wealth of experience in medical negligence and a proven track history of successfully representing clients in a number of high profile cases.

“Her specialist knowledge and experience will help drive forward our medical negligence expertise in Scotland.”

Ms Williamson said: “I am excited to be joining a medical negligence team with such a strong reputation in the industry for getting the best results for their clients. I am looking forward to working with Access Legal’s well-established and reputable team.”
