The Institute of Licensing, the UK’s professional membership body for licensing practitioners, has for the first time launched a Scottish region and appointed Stephen McGowan, partner and head of licensing (Scotland) at TLT LLP as chair.

Chairman of the Institute, Dan Davies, said: “It’s a great pleasure to officially announce Scotland as the Institute of Licensing 12th region. Under the guidance of Stephen McGowan, we hope the Institute of Licensing’s presence will be of great benefit to licensing practitioners across the country.”

Mr McGowan said: “I’m honoured to be named as the inaugural chair of the new Scottish region of the Institute of Licensing. The support of licensing colleagues has been instrumental to my appointment and I’m looking forward to working closely with a number of my fellow licensing professionals to establish the region.”

“In my role I will encourage those in Scotland’s licensing industry to work collaboratively and help each other grow their professional relationships and standards, just as our contemporaries do throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland.”

Mr McGowan was appointed chairman of BII Scotland in 2012 and sits on the Law Society of Scotland licensing sub-committee and the national advisory panel of the Institute of Licensing. He has sat on a number of government working groups relating to licensing including licensing board member training and personal licence refresher training.
