Two more expert speakers have been confirmed for the major conference on “Scotland and Brexit: implications for law and government”, which is being held on Monday 29 May in Edinburgh.

Joanna Cherry QC, who is SNP Shadow Justice and Home Affairs spokesperson, and a QC of more than 20 years standing, will now speak on “Future relations between Scotland and the EU”.

David Martin, Labour MEP for Scotland has already agreed to speak on “The European perspective on Brexit, and on Scotland’s place in Europe.” He is a member of the Scottish government’s advisory Standing Council on Europe.

A further additional speaker confirmed today is Kirsty Hughes, the director of the new Scottish Centre on European Relations. She has many years of experience in EU constitutional and policy matters, and will talk on “Prospects for the Brexit talks and outcomes - EU27, UK and Scottish outlooks”.

Ms Hughes said: “Real Brexit talks will start soon. Whatever deal the UK government gets, the impacts on the UK and Scotland will be major and wide-ranging, not least as new barriers to trade and business come in. Bringing together legal and constitutional experts in this seminar will provide a useful focus on what the key issues are likely to be.”
