A group of Dundee University law students are preparing to represent Scotland at a Europe-wide moot competition in The Hague.

Fourth year students Conor Kier, Giorgio Ventisei, Katherine Wade and Megan Anderson, will compete in the 41st Telders International Moot Court Competition at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) later this month.

This is the third consecutive year that Dundee law students have been selected to represent Scotland.

The competition, which runs from 24 – 26 May, sees winners of national rounds, from 20 countries across Europe, compete against one another – with the final taking place in the Peace Palace before judges of the ICJ.

Each year, the case tests participants’ knowledge of public international law and often draws on current disputes before the ICJ. This year’s case, ‘The Plight of the Dandy Narwhals’, focuses on the conflict between the competing environmental and economic interests of two different states.

The team will also participate in the official Vaccaro Law Bureau international friendly round. This will take place at the European University Institute in Florence, from 9 –13 May. Both the friendly round and the Telders competition provide an opportunity for law students with an interest in public international law to network and hone their skills in front of leading experts in the field.

This year’s team are raising money to assist with the cost of participation in the competition, including entrance fees, accommodation and travel expenses.

The team would be extremely grateful for any financial help in meeting the costs of participation. You can donate here: gofundme.com/telders-international-moot-2018.
