Around the world in seven days: Pinsent Masons takes on 25,000 mile charity cycle challenge

Staff at Pinsent Masons’ three Scottish offices are saddling up with international colleagues for a week-long charity push which will see them pedal almost 25,000 miles – the equivalent of a round-the-world cycle – over seven days.

The WE Cycle the World challenge is the firm’s first globally coordinated charity event in which staff from each of its 24 international offices will this week (23-30 Sept) collectively cycle thousands of miles.

Twenty-five per cent of the funds raised by staff in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen will go to local charities with the remainder donated to WE, which champions the empowerment of communities to lift themselves out of poverty.

In Glasgow staff have opted to support the Scottish Association for Mental Health, in Edinburgh the homeless charity Street Work, and in Aberdeen youth charity and social enterprise Transition Extreme.

Staff will log their miles on stationary bikes located in the firm’s offices and those commuting to work or cycling during the week will be encouraged to record mileage. Family fun cycle days have been organised in each city with options for cyclists of all abilities to take part in short, medium and longer rides.

Kate Fergusson, head of responsible business at Pinsent Masons, said: “We are delighted to be supporting WE Charity and some of our local partner charities in Scotland through our first ever WE Cycle the World initiative.

“This is not only a great way to raise money and awareness for some very worthy causes, but also an opportunity to promote employee health and wellbeing. The event is not just aimed at experienced cyclists and we hope as many people as possible will be able to get involved.

“I am confident our Scottish teams will do more than their fair share of contributing to our firm-wide 24,901 miles target, which is the equivalent of cycling around the world.”
