England: Legal bill for woman who defamed ex-husband online tops £200,000

A woman who defamed her ex-husband on Facebook is facing a £200,000 legal bill after losing her appeal, The Brief reports.
Nicola Stocker, 50, posted Facebook comments accusing ex-husband Ronald Stocker, 67, of trying to kill her. The comments were aimed at his new partner, Deboragh Bligh.
Mr Justice Mitting, sitting in the High Court in London in 2016, ruled in Mr Stocker’s favour and awarded him £5,000 in compensation.
Having failed to overturn the decision before the three-judge Court of Appeal yesterday, Ms Stocker now faces a bill for £200,000 in costs from just the original trial, plus any further costs from the appeal.
