Trainee Solicitors
Our office is in Dundee but exact working location is flexible
£24,561 for first year, increasing to £25,737 in the second year (salary in line with the Law Society recommended rates)
Temporary from Summer 2025 – Summer 2027
About the role
We are recruiting Trainee Solicitors to support our Fitness to Practise department to investigate allegations that may affect the fitness to practice of social service workers.
We are recruiting now for trainees to start in July 2025.
As part of a busy investigation team, you’ll work closely with solicitors, investigators and precognition assistants, plan and conduct investigations, take statements, provide legal advice and conduct Fitness to Practise Panel hearings usually when into your second year.
Who we are
We are the independent regulator for social service workers in Scotland. Our work means the people of Scotland can count on social work, social care and children and young people services being provided by a trusted, skilled and confident workforce.
We protect the public by registering people working in social work, social care and children and young people services, setting standards for their practice, conduct, training and education and by supporting their professional development. Where people fall below the standards of practice and conduct, we can investigate and take action.
What you need to succeed
As part of this traineeship, you must be a graduate in Scots Law holding a valid Diploma in Legal Practice and be eligible to obtain an Entrance Certificate from the Law Society of Scotland. You will be expected to enter into a training contract with us and the Law Society of Scotland.
Why work for us
We are an ambitious, enthusiastic and supportive organisation. We have a good track record of developing our trainees with many staying on as NQ solicitors with us after their traineeship. We want staff who hold the same values as us – we listen, learn and do the right thing. We offer flexible working arrangements, a full range of benefits, local government pension scheme and generous annual leave provision.
You can find out more about the benefits of working here on our website.
We work in an agile way. This gives you more choice over deciding how, when and where you work best in a way that balances your needs and those of our customers, our staff and ourselves. That may be at our office in Dundee, or at home. Many of our staff work from home much of the working week. As a Trainee Solicitor and particularly if this is your first professional job we would expect you to be available to work in the office at least a few times each month for your own development and training. You will also need to be able to observe or present hearings that take place in person, which is normally in Dundee, but on occasion can be anywhere is Scotland.
