Solicitor/Associate 2+ PQE – Contentious Construction

Job Introduction
We are looking to recruit a Solicitor/Associate to work with a highly regarded Contentious Construction Partner to boost the firm’s current direct/commercial construction practice in Scotland. The candidate will play an active role in the growth and success of the team in collaboration with our wider practice in the North, nationally and internationally.
Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to form part of a prestigious and highly ambitious national and international construction team, to be part of delivering this success at a local level.
The firm’s construction team acts for a full range of leading industry members on a wide range of contentious issues, including claims over time, money and defects. It provides project-based advice to help clients manage out difficult issues and to avoid disputes. If a dispute does then arise, the team has substantial experience in all methods of dispute resolution – both formal and informal. The successful candidate will also gain exposure to this area of the team’s work.
The Ideal Candidate
- 2 years + PQE, ideally construction and/or commercial litigation experience;
- Solid track record in terms of academia;
- Excellent relationship and client handling skills. Able to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day to day issues. Able to demonstrate a reasonable level of self-sufficiency, combined with an awareness of the boundaries of own competence/authority;
- An ability to adopt a client focused and commercial perspective rather than an “academic’” approach to legal issues, coupled with a keen grasp of legal issues, as these arise (demonstrating a clear ability to learn quickly “on the job”);
- Change oriented with a positive, flexible approach towards the implementation of new initiatives;
- Team oriented and collegiate with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team;
- Willingness to work hard as part of a highly ambitious and driven team to help it continue to develop and to achieve its objectives;
- Willingness to be involved in business development and strategy to drive forward profitable growth for the team.
