That’s because we’ve created a different kind of law firm. Here, you’ll build relationships with clients and colleagues that really last. You’ll help shape what happens now, and what comes next. And we’ll support and encourage you to be the best you can be.

This is what life at Thorntons is all about. And this is your moment to be part of it.

About the role

In this senior role in our Private Client team, you’ll oversee the administration of complex and high-value trusts, guide clients through sensitive and technical matters, and support the development of junior team members. It’s about:

Trust Administration

• Taking the lead on complex trust matters, from asset transfers and investment monitoring to strategic interactions with beneficiaries.
• Ensuring trust structures remain compliant with changing regulations and best practice.
• Managing the preparation and submission of Inheritance Tax (IHT) returns with precision.
• Overseeing detailed financial reports and maintaining accurate trust records.
• Collaborating closely with legal, tax and financial advisers to ensure holistic trust management.

Client Relationships

• Acting as a key point of contact for clients and beneficiaries, offering thoughtful, strategic guidance on complex issues.
• Building long-term, trusted relationships with individuals and families through empathetic, professional support.
• Handling sensitive information and family dynamics with discretion, integrity, and care.

Team Leadership and Development

• Supporting and mentoring junior colleagues, sharing your legal and taxation knowledge to help them grow.
• Fostering collaboration and encouraging high standards across the team.
• Contributing to continuous improvement in our trust services and internal processes.

What you’ll need

We’re looking for someone who brings not only technical expertise but also a genuine passion for client service and team development. You’ll need:

• Proven experience managing trusts, ideally in a senior capacity.
• Strong legal and tax knowledge, particularly around IHT, CGT and fiduciary duties.
• Excellent communication skills—you’re confident guiding clients through difficult decisions and technical matters.
• Experience of arranging, administering, and conducting trustee meetings.
• Impeccable attention to detail and organisational skills.
• A collaborative, solution-focused mindset and a calm, composed approach under pressure.
• Integrity, professionalism, and a strong ethical compass in everything you do.
• A commitment to continuous learning and staying ahead of legal and regulatory developments.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional ready to lead, advise and make a real impact in the lives of our clients. If you’re looking for a senior role where your expertise and empathy are truly valued—we’d love to hear from you
