Working as part of the growing legal team and reporting to the Head of Legal, this specialist role will support colleagues across the University in respect of disputes, complaints, internal investigations and regulatory proceedings. The role may also include other in-house counsel activities such as reviewing and drafting commercial contracts, providing legal advice, managing external counsel where applicable, delivering training on legal and compliance topics, and supervising the work of more junior colleagues.
The ideal candidate for this role will:
- have significant experience advising on contentious matters, such as disciplinary, conduct or complaint investigations and hearings, and in respect of actual or potential litigation
- be analytical and work logically through issues
- have a strong understanding of risk
- have the ability to work with discretion and manage sensitive information
- work well independently and as part of a cross-disciplinary team (and display a willingness to contribute to the development of the team)
- demonstrate a genuine interest in the HE sector
