The Civil Legal Assistance Office (CLAO) is a legal service operating through a mix of: casework; referral to other providers of legal assistance and support; second tier support to other providers (including training); and partnership/development project working with local and national organisations operating in defined geographical areas.
We’re looking for a solicitor to head our Edinburgh office, who will, in addition to carrying their own caseload, manage a team of solicitors, all aspects of the day to day operation of the office and develop the business of that office within the national framework of the service.
With a full, post-qualified and unrestricted practising certificate from the Law Society of Scotland, you will have a good knowledge of the civil justice system and legal aid legislation; sound experience of civil legal assistance and civil court work; and good, effective leadership and people management skills. You should also possess strong client/customer awareness and well developed communication, facilitation and influencing skills. Knowledge and skills to manage financial procedures, along with knowledge and experience in the use of office-related IT, including case recording and word processing are also essential. Experience of providing training and knowledge and experience of housing law, debt and benefits and social welfare law would be desirable, as would experience of working with vulnerable client groups.
