WJM launches bursary for trainee solicitors

Amy McDougall

Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP has launched a new bursary for trainee solicitors which has been awarded this year to University of Strathclyde graduate Amy McDougall.

Launched to coincide with WJM’s merger with MacArthur & Co in Inverness, the WJM bursary was offered to encourage a trainee solicitor to begin their career with them in the north of Scotland.

Ms McDougall, from Bearsden, a suburb of Glasgow, will relocate to Inverness for the start of her traineeship with WJM in September 2017. As part of her two year traineeship, she will complete four six-month seats across the core WJM practice groups, including commercial property, private client, conflict resolution group and corporate law. She will also undergo a structured training programme designed to enhance her business, client relationship and technical skills.

Ms McDougall is one of five new trainees WJM has recruited this year. WJM human resource director, Gaye Simpson said: “We are very excited to be launching the new bursary for trainee solicitors who join our Inverness Office.

“With the recent merger and move to new offices it is integral to our success to give our trainees the opportunity to work in the vibrant city of Inverness and experience a varied and comprehensive traineeship. Our people in Inverness have a breadth and depth of experience in the local market that will be invaluable to a trainee at the start of their legal career.”

Expressing her delight at receiving the bursary, Ms McDougall said: “WJM offers a considerable breadth of services throughout the Highlands & Islands, including family business, renewable energy, corporate law and private client expertise, so this traineeship offers everything I could possibly hope for. I also have the chance to be able to live and work in a beautiful part of the country so I am delighted.”

WJM has 22 partners, 42 fee earners and 46 support staff across its three offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness.
