Simon Allison crowned Lawyer of the Year at Scottish Legal Awards 2018

Blackadders’ Simon Allison has been named Lawyer of the Year at this year’s Scottish Legal Awards.

Mr Allison, 41, an employment partner at the firm, was given a fresh lease on life after he suffered a rare stroke which only occurs in two per cent of stroke victims in the UK.

He first suffered a minor stroke when he went out running with a friend on 19th January, 2017. His friend spotted the problem when he was talking, but making no sense and his face began drooping.

Although the symptoms passed, he went to hospital for a check-up and it was while there he suffered a second massive stroke which left him unable to speak and to move his limbs. A CT scan identified that the stroke was caused by a tear in his artery in his neck close to his brain.

Following intensive treatment and rehabilitation, particularly with Cameron Hospital in Leven, he was, incredibly, back at work within three months.

Known for his comedy antics with colleagues at Blackadders, he produced a special Christmas video last year and, more recently, a trailer for the upcoming series of the firm’s podcast: Employment Lawyer in Your Pocket.

He tweeted: “Well done to all the finalists @LegalAwards last night. I really can’t thank my colleagues, friends and family enough for their support over the past 12 months. Truly astounding #LawyerOfTheYear #legalawards18”.
