Glasgow criminal defence firm Scullion LAW has announced the promotion of solicitor advocate Urfan Dar to senior associate.

The move comes alongside the growing firm’s recruitment of Anna MacKay as an associate and Lucy McKenna as a solicitor.

Mr Dar, who became the first Muslim solicitor advocate in Scotland in 2014, has extensive experience in the management, direction and presentation of High Court, sheriff and jury, and summary trials.

Commenting on his promotion, Mr Dar said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to work with Scullion LAW this year through one of the most unusual and testing times in living memory.”

The firm’s criminal and road traffic departments have been working remotely throughout the Covid-19 pandemic on behalf of clients across the whole of Scotland.

Mr Dar added: “I am humbled to be recognised for my contribution in such a short and challenging space of time and welcome the endorsement of my work. I shall continue to seek to positively contribute to the success of the firm in the times ahead.”

Managing director Nicholas Scullion said: “Urfan is a brilliant solicitor advocate and he has delivered significant results since joining Scullion LAW at the beginning of the year.

“He is a great person to work with and we are delighted to recognise his contribution to the continued success of the firm.”

He added: “We look forward to finishing off the last quarter of 2020 on a high. It has otherwise been a very tough year for everyone.”

Ms MacKay will join the firm as an associate within weeks, focusing on serving solemn and private criminal clients.

Ms McKenna, who will join the firm as a solicitor early next month, is an experienced road traffic litigator. She is the second generation of her family to work for the firm as her mother, advocate Shirley McKenna, previously worked for Mr Scullion.
